Recently moved back to a neighborhood adjacent to Recently moved back to a neighborhood adjacent to Orange Mound. Made me think of all the decades i have been in Memphis and the continued connection i keep with the neighborhood. Started thinking about good friends of mine that hold down quite a few blocks, realizing its been almost 7-8 years since we have seen each other. The first week in the middle of moving and getting diesel at Z mart on Southern I got to see my friends. Every year for halloween the family builds a Haunted House- OUT OF WOOD PALLETS AND BLACK PLASTIC SHEETING !! the family then hosts and participates as scare creatures on an empty lot in the middle of Orange Mound. It scared the piss out of me the first time, it was that good !! (we ran out of fuel leaving that night and had to walk out of the neighborhood on Halloween, nothing as scary as that Pallet House) As an antique furniture restorer in midtown for many years Whitten Bros Hardware saved me when Stuart Bros on Madison closed. The staff is the funniest and the store is a gem, I love whitten bros. Wilson tire has been where i get tires plugged for years, the owner finally let me inside the building and i said what a cool bar it would make. He told me His father had the tire shop and before that IT WAS A BAR IN THE 1950s !! There was a shoe store called Chernins that i frequented when Piper Dandy and i were Djing for a living full time. (err more like living full all the time as a DJ. They sold Giorgio Brutini shoes 2 for 25$ and i had every hue to hide i could cram my foot in. Mint Green Alligator loafers. Enough said. If you are still pissed at the many times Shea G and I lit off 100foot diameter firework mortars in a cooper young parking lot- minus the launch tube and short fusing on the bare ground, we were simply supporting commerce with OM! (all my levis had burn holes in the ass end!) AT one time i could get better fireworks than anywhere between Lawler's across the river all the way up North to BOOM TOWN !!
