Transforming a Clarksdale Pool House Into a Luxury Airbnb Retreat

When people think of Clarksdale, Mississippi, they think of legendary blues history, rich Delta culture, and rustic Southern charm. When we took on the project of converting a neglected backyard pool house into a luxury Clarksdale guesthouse interior design project, the goal was simple: blend the authentic soulful spirit of the region with high-end, comfortable modern interior design.

Here is how we turned an underutilized poolside structure into a premier destination stay.

1. The Challenge: A Glass Box Layout

The original pool house structure had good “bones,” but it was essentially a glass box with three solid walls of windows. It needed to transition from a casual, damp poolside utility room into a self-contained, private luxury retreat where guests could unwind in style after exploring downtown Clarksdale.

2. The Design Vision: Graceland Inspired

To anchor the space, we drew direct inspiration from the iconic TV room at Graceland. We borrowed a bold, classic color palette of navy blue and lemon yellow to give the room an undeniable Memphis-meets-the-Delta energy.

• Complete Furniture Sourcing: We sourced every single piece of furniture specifically for this footprint to ensure it felt curated, comfortable, and distinctly Southern, rather than feeling like leftover patio furniture.
• Custom Drapery: To soften the hard edges of the architecture and provide essential privacy for guests, we hung custom drapes wrapping entirely around all three sides of the glass walls. When drawn, they create an incredibly cozy, intimate atmosphere.

3. High-Impact Details: The Elvis Bathroom

We wanted to carry that historic music energy throughout the entire guesthouse, making every room an experience. The bathroom became a standalone design moment—we hung stunning designer wallpaper and paired it with a curated gallery wall featuring all Elvis prints to tie the Graceland color story together.
